The Year of the Peanut
Hello! Yes, I know, it’s been a while. Stuff has happened. Lots of stuff has happened. I sold a house and bought a house. And then I moved to that house, which took up every moment of spare energy available. We had a wonderful trip to Budapest (thank you Sassy and Sabraman) and also a nice vacation at the Grand Canyon (very impressive hole in the ground), Las Vegas and New York. I left one job, got another job. Loved that job! However, that job kept me busy, too busy to blog, but not too busy to cook. And then I was replaced, by a computer program. How embarrassing! So now I’ve become the hunter (of employment) instead of the gatherer (of salary). But since my last blog entry there’s been something (or rather, someone) else that has made me smile. You see, I’ve fallen in love…
My daughter Sassy and her in-house superhero, Sabraman, have added to our collection of grandchildren! Ju-Boy is still ahead in the race, with Crown Prince and Brave-Boy, but game on! Meet Peanut, the latest addition and edition in the Miriyummy collection. If you’re my friend on Facebook, or Ravelry, or in real life (imagine that, I have a real life), you have probably watched Peanut grow over the past year with my constant spamming the ethersphere. And what a yummy Peanut he is!
He already knows how to get on my good side!
And I already have him helping me in the kitchen!
It seems that Ju-Boy and I have started an excellent collection…
The last year and a half has been a total rollercoaster for us, and I’ve got plenty of new stories and new recipes, but I’ll leave you now with the first recipe I made in honor of our little Peanut served up at his shalom zachar.
Gorp – Miriyummy Style
Gorp is basically trail mix. Some people say the name come from “good old raisins and peanuts.” Others say the acronym stands for granola, oats, raisins and peanuts. However, in Miriyummyland, it contains…
- 200 grams (8 ounces) roasted peanuts, preferably salted
- 200 grams (8 ounces) craisins (can use raisins instead)
- 200 grams (8 ounces) dried banana chips
- 300 grams (12 ounces) white chocolate chips (okay, you can use dark or milk if you prefer)
Mix everything together, serve with good single malt whisky (or not).
The reason this picture of Gorp looks like it has mostly white chocolate chips and craisins is because Tinky and Shy-Boy managed to pick out and eat all the peanuts and banana chips before I could snap a photo.

Thanks for the updates on your beautiful family and, if I haven’t said it before, Mazel Tov on the newest addition. Recipe sounds really good. I do something similar using raisins, salted peanuts, M & M’s (plain, pretzel or both) and anything else you prefer.

Mazal Tov on the birth of Peanut! Nice to have them help you in the kitchen. BTW, do you ever knit for the little ones in the family? Just curious, I have made two mini sweaters for the one day grandchildren, which now are imaginary! Be well…..
